India’s rapid economic growth has resulted in a booming demand for skilled manpower. Industries ranging from retail to banking, automotive to construction and hospitality to security have a huge demand for employees. The National Skills Development Commission Report of March 2009 says that the demand for skilled manpower will be about 83 million in 2015 and 500 million by 2022.
While demand for skilled manpower is estimated in millions, India’s unemployment is estimated around 300 million. Youth with school and college education find it increasingly difficult to get jobs.IndiaSkills believes that this mismatch happens because of the lack of relevant skill sets. The current system of education imparted by schools and colleges is not always adequate to guarantee a job. The industry requires people with specific skill sets and domain knowledge for entry level jobs. This is where IndiaSkills bridges the demand-supply gap.
