Overview
The current system of education in India lacks focus on imparting skills & employability to the students, resulting in a significant mismatch between the industry needs and the existing skill set of the students. The effect of the above has been a significant unemployment among youth and shortage of skills for the industry. A recent KPMG report maps the levels of available skill set in the Retail Sector Only a meager 10% of the college students getting into the formal employment system and rest either becoming underemployed or unemployed
Skill education is the solution
The solution to the above issue lies in delivering industry relevant skill education to the forthcoming generations along with their mainstream education. This system of vocational education is very prominent in the developed countries (as high as 85% of the students’ do vocational training) whereas in India not more than 5% of students pursue the same.
Efforts were on even in our country for vocationalizing the system of education, but success has eluded us till date. India has the dire need of achieving 500 million skilled labors by the year 2022 of which 83 million needs to be achieved by the year 2015. Hence, quality skill training from industry recognized players is the need of the hour.

The challenges of bridging the gap between existing system of education and the required skill set, the shortage in training infrastructure, lack of awareness, affordability & tackling the social stigma can be handled effectively most effectively by Institution of education. A degree from the college and the right kind of skills will enable a student with exciting jobs in the emerging sectors.
